McGowan at sea, 1958.  In October, 1960 McGowan was transferred to Spain under the Military Assistance Program.  She was recommissioned Jorge Juan D25.  She served 27 years in the Spanish navy.  In November, 1988, she was broken up for scrap, ending a remarkable 44 years afloat.
